Starlink has secured official approval from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to launch satellite internet services in the country, marking a significant step in expanding connectivity. The authorization was granted after the company fulfilled all financial obligations, including the required licensing fees, as confirmed by BTRC officials.
To commence operations, Starlink must now collaborate with local partners to establish ground infrastructure and obtain tariff approvals, ensuring compliance with national regulations. A BTRC spokesperson emphasized that the company’s deployment plans, including technical setups, will be finalized in coordination with domestic stakeholders.
The approval process involved a rigorous review by a seven-member committee, which assessed Starlink’s application and deemed it fully compliant with regulatory standards. Notably, this marks the fastest license issuance in BTRC’s history for satellite service providers. The expedited timeline aligns with directives from the government, led by Chief Advisor Prof. Muhammad Yunus, which mandated a 90-day window for Starlink’s operational rollout following its application submission.
Starlink’s local office in Dhaka submitted the necessary documentation, which underwent thorough verification by BTRC teams. While the license is now active, the company has yet to announce specific timelines for service launch, pending final infrastructure and tariff clearances. Further updates are anticipated as Starlink progresses toward operational readiness in Bangladesh.
