**Rajshahi University Enforces Suspension of Professor Following Misconduct Probe**
Rajshahi University (RU) has suspended Professor Mustak Ahmed, former head of its Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) department, after an investigative committee substantiated allegations of sexual harassment, financial mismanagement, and academic violations. The decision was ratified during the 537th syndicate meeting on March 9, 2025, following a comprehensive review of the department’s financial records and student-led complaints.
The allegations emerged in September 2024 when students accused Ahmed of misconduct during his tenure as department chair, including claims of corruption, inciting unrest during protests, and mishandling funds. Faculty members reportedly endorsed the students’ grievances, prompting the university to launch an inquiry.
Under the sanctions, Ahmed’s eligibility for promotions and salary increments will be suspended for five years from his next scheduled promotion date. He is barred from administrative roles, academic activities, and external employment during this period. Additionally, he must settle all departmental dues within 15 working days of receiving formal notice. The suspension period will not count toward his active service tenure.
The university emphasized its commitment to accountability, underscoring a zero-tolerance approach to institutional misconduct.
