BNP Initiates Countrywide Protests Demanding Election Timeline

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) commenced a nationwide series of demonstrations across six districts today, kicking off an eight-day campaign advocating for their key demands, including the prompt disclosure of an election schedule.

Previously, the party declared plans to organize protests in all 64 districts between February 12 and 25. On the first day, gatherings are planned in Lalmonirhat, Khulna, Brahmanbaria, Patuakhali, and Sunamganj.

In Lalmonirhat, BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy is expected to speak, while Nazrul Islam Khan will address attendees in Sirajganj. Hafiz Uddin Ahmed is scheduled to lead the Khulna rally.

Brahmanbaria’s event will feature Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, and Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal from the Chairperson’s advisory council will speak in Patuakhali. Ariful Haque Chowdhury, another advisory council member, will present at the Sunamganj gathering.

The party stated these protests mark the start of a phased effort to hold similar events in all districts and major urban centers. BNP’s demands include curbing rising costs of essential goods, improving public safety, and opposing alleged schemes by authoritarian factions in the country.
