A Munshiganj court has granted a two-day remand for Nehal Ahmed Jihad, 24, the accused in the case filed in connection to the public assault of two women at the Munshiganj launch terminal on Friday.

After Jihad was produced before Munshiganj Cognisance Court-1 around 1:30pm, Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahidul Islam granted police two days to question him, said Court Police Inspector Md Kamrul Islam Miah. For all latest news, follow The Daily Star’s Google News channel.
He said the accused will now be sent to jail and later brought into police custody for interrogation.

Sub-Inspector Imran Ahmed of Muktarpur River Police Outpost, the investigating officer of the case, said, “Besides Nehal Ahmed Jihad, there were others present during the incident. He is being remanded primarily to identify and gather information on whether there were involvement of others.”

Yesterday, police sought a 7-day remand for Jihad, of Jogonighat area in Munshiganj Sadar upazila. The court set today for the remand hearing and sent him to jail.
According to case documents, during a stopover at the Munshiganj terminal on Friday, two young women were assaulted publicly onboard the stationary MV Captain.

Following the incident, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Milon Biswas of the Muktarpur River Police Outpost filed a case with Munshiganj Police Station under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000.

Jihad, along with 20–25 unidentified others, were accused in the case.
Police arrested Jihad on Saturday afternoon.
